Overview
TrackMyTank is a fuel tracking app designed with privacy in mind. Your data is stored locally on your device by default, and cloud sync is completely optional.
The app works fully offline without an account. You only need to sign in if you want to backup your data to the cloud or access it across multiple devices.
Scope
This Policy applies to the TrackMyTank web app. It does not apply to third-party sites you may reach through links inside the app; those sites have their own privacy practices.
Data We Collect
1. Fuel & Vehicle Data
When you use the app, you may enter:
- Vehicle information (name, type, fuel type)
- Fuel entries (date, odometer reading, fuel amount, price, total cost)
- Optional notes for each entry
This data is stored locally on your device. If you enable cloud sync, this data is also stored securely in our database.
2. User Preferences
We store your app preferences locally, including:
- Preferred currency
- Distance unit (km/miles)
- Volume unit (liters/gallons)
- Theme preference
3. Account Information (Optional)
If you choose to create an account for cloud sync, we collect:
- Email address
- Name (from your Google account, if using Google Sign-In)
4. Anonymous Analytics
We collect anonymous usage data to improve the app, including:
- Page views and feature usage
- General geographic location (country level)
- Device type and browser
This data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify you personally.
How Information Is Collected
We collect information (a) directly from you when you type it into the app or fill a form; (b) automatically through your device and browser (device type, general usage data); and (c) from Google when you choose to sign in with your Google account.
How We Use Your Data
- Fuel tracking: To provide you with insights about your fuel consumption and spending
- Cloud sync: To backup and sync your data across devices (if enabled)
- Analytics: To understand how people use the app and make improvements
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase: Database and authentication (for cloud sync)
- Vercel: Hosting
- Google: Sign-in authentication (optional)
These services have their own privacy policies and may collect additional data as described in their respective policies. Our anonymous usage analytics are logged directly to our own Supabase database, not to a third-party analytics provider.
Data Storage & Security
- Local data: Stored in your browser's IndexedDB, encrypted by your browser
- Cloud data: Stored securely in Supabase with row-level security policies, encrypted in transit (TLS)
- Passwords: We don't store passwords - authentication is handled by Google or Supabase Auth
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International Users
Our service providers may store and process data in countries other than your own. By using the app, you consent to your data being processed in a country other than your own, under safeguards consistent with applicable law.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: View all data stored about you
- Delete: Delete your data at any time (clear local storage or delete your account)
- Export: Your data is yours - you can view it anytime in the app
- Opt-out: Use the app without an account (fully local storage)
Data Retention
- Local data: Stored until you clear your browser data or uninstall the app
- Cloud data: Stored until you delete your account
- Analytics: Retained for up to 12 months
Children's Privacy
TrackMyTank is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
